original bee species of Northern Europe. It was found in Germany until around 1850 as a wild bee, in wild beekeeping (Zeidel beekeeping) and in traditional basket beekeeping. Important characteristics for distinguishing the species are, in addition to body size, the wing veining and coloration characteristics. The dark bee can be distinguished from the other subspecies of the western honey bee by its very dark <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chitin\">chitinous shell<\/a> and the dark brown to black hairs on the thoracic segment.<\/p>\n<p>Trait testing plays an important role in the conservation breeding of the dark bee. The most important and safest feature is the veining of the wings. Here we determine the cubital index (below 2.0), dumbbell index (below 0.9) and the discoid displacement (must be negative). He has published many articles on the subject.<br \/>\nJan Gutzeit and Johannes Peter, among others, have also done a lot of groundwork in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>The first breeding objective today is primarily conservation. It will be many years before we have a healthy &#8220;gene pool&#8221; in Germany to speak of a stable population. This is where breeders in particular are in demand. Safe mating is very time-consuming and cost-intensive. Many breeders rely on instrumental insemination. We ourselves want to make our contribution to conservation primarily through safe mating on the island of Greifswalder Oie and the land-based breeding sites.
